NS Rates for writing and editing services:
Rates:Based on double-spaced text, set in 12-point type on 8 ½ by 11 sheets (about 300 words per page) the time it takes to edit documents or draft web sites is as follows:
NorthStudio charges an hourly rate of $95 per hour, in 6 minute increments ($9.50 for each 6 minutes) with a minimum charge of $47.50 for the first 30 minutes. * if we need to simplify highly technical language, or the original document is very poorly written and needs substantial time and thought to be re-written, this would be considered a “substantive edit” . Writing from scratch:It is just about impossible to generalize on the amount of time and effort it takes to write original copy. It depends on the complexity of the subject matter, the amount of research and material needed, the style of writing, and many other variables. Editing levels:Proofreading:Appropriate for a document or website that has already been professionally edited and is in its final form. Medium edit:Equivalent to standard copy editing (about five pages an hour). Appropriate for written material that has not been copy edited. This type of edit includes any rephrasing that is necessary to convey the writer's meaning more clearly. Heavy/substantive edit:Appropriate for material that has not been reviewed by an editor of any kind, or is out of date. A heavy edit provides more extensive rewriting where needed, with a particular emphasis on plain language techniques to enhance readability and comprehension. RewritingReorganizing and rewriting entire websites: same as a heavy/substantive edit. |
