How to Turn Off Facebook Event Notifications

Remember the good ‘ol days when we used snail mail to send invitations to friends for events like birthday parties and weddings?

Or, even just five years ago when Facebook event notifications made us feel popular? When they were real invites to real events you actually wanted to attend? With people you liked?

Not any more. If you’re like me, your inbox is flooded with invites to bottle drives in faraway lands, concerts at dodgy coffee shops and obnoxious theme parties at a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend’s house. And to make matters even worse, if you don’t give a definite answer, you’re bombarded with notifications every time someone changes a detail or writes on the wall. Good times.

Thankfully, there are several ways to end this nonsense once and for all.

Here’s what you can do:

Turn off notifications for specific events The best way to not receive notifications for an event is to simply… *drumroll please*… DECLINE the invite.

If you were guilt-tripped into responding Maybe or Going for the offending event there is still a way you can stop notifications from filling your newsfeed

The best way to go to the Event’s Page. Then head to the top right corner of the event and click on the settings button. From there you should click both Unfollow and Off to stop all notifications.

Now you don’t have to see any posts from the overenthusiastic event attendees, or really anyone that might just annoy you. Nobody got time for dat.
